Disha develops capacity of self-help group members in income generation activities for their economic betterment. Most of these income generation options are based on agricultural inputs. Such training include training in production of edible items like pickles, namkeen (mixture of various fried edibles like gram, peanuts, pulses, etc.), or non-edible items like incense sticks. Apart from production the groups are being imparted training in packaging of the produce and given inputs on their marketing. In addition the members are also imparted training in appropriate techniques for taking up agriculture and allied activities like dairying, horticulture, etc.
For meeting capital requirements the SHGs are being linked with banks for loans and cash and credit limits.
Of late options not based on agriculture inputs are also being exercised. Recently training of rural women in production of readymade garments has been started. Under this, 120 women in four batches of 30 each will be imparted training for six months each. So far two batches have completed training and training of the third batch is at present underway.
The trained women have produced 300 sets of uniforms for children being imparted education under another activity of the organisation. They have also produced bags for use in the organisation’s training activities. The women have put up two exhibitions of the clothes produced by them at the Training Centre. They have also exhibited their craft at an exhibition organised in Saharanpur city.
For meeting capital requirements of women they have been organised into SHGs. These SHGs are approaching banks for loans and cash and credit limit. Attempts are also being made to establish linkages of the trained women with producers, wholesalers and retailers dealing in readymade garments.
