Micro Finance Institution Association of Disha with self help groups dates back to 1995. Since then the organisation has facilitated formation of nearly 1,500 SHGs. These SHGs have impressive track record. Despite continuous and sustained efforts, only one third SHGs could be linked with banks for loans and cash and credit limits. Linkages with banks have had their own share of problems. With this in mind, Disha has now donned the mantle of micro finance institution. At present loans are being provided to the SHG members for income generation activities of their own choice. Generally loans applications are processed in shortest possible time and disbursed quickly. The loans are given to SHG members on the guarantee of the SHG as a whole. The fellow group members ensure that the loan is repaid in time to the organisation. Systems for micro finance institution are being developed. The organisation's staff associated with the promotion of SHGs is being trained in micro finance. Negotiations are in the final stages with leading banks to arrange capital for micro finace venture. |
