Disha’s efforts towards social harmony have special relevance in its area of operation, which has a mixed Hindu-Muslim population. Uttar Pradesh has passed through communally surcharged environment in the recent years and Disha has done excellent work in maintaining communal harmony. It brings together members of both the religions to jointly celebrate festivals like Holi and Eid. Now Holi and Eid get-togethers organised by Disha are eagerly awaited by all members of the local people.
Disha’s work of promoting social harmony also benefits the weaker sections of the society as it is they who suffer the most (including loss of daily work wages) whenever communal tension erupts. Workshops and seminars on promotion of social harmony and participation in fairs and events promoting social harmony are held from time to time.
Members of Disha’s team have set a fine example of ending all discrimination based on religion, caste, gender, etc. In particular Muslim women have received a lot of encouragement from Disha to come forward for various tasks of social reforms.
