We Can Home
Disha Social Organization in partnership with Oxfam (India) and 25 local non-governmental organisations is spearheading We Can Campaign in Uttaranchal state of India. Disha's partners in Uttaranchal are those organisations which are already working on women related issues, or which want to work on such issues.
We Can Campaign seeks to address root causes of discrimination against girls and women and to end all kinds of violence against them. During the next six years the campaign allies will seek to:
- Target awareness-raising interventions at the community level
- Challenge and change existing social and individual attitudes that accept violence against women as 'normal'
- Mobilise all sections of the family, community and society to act to prevent violence against women
- Encourage formulation and implementation of appropriate of gender-equal policies and programmes
- Bring together diverse local, regional, national and international efforts working towards ending violence against women
A state level alliance has been formed to plan, execute and monitor the campaign and also to finalise policies for better running of the campaign. A core team comprising four members has also been formed to prepare the policies on behalf of the state alliance.
The torch-bearers of the campaign are Change Makers. So far over 3,000 Change Makers have been enlisted. The Change Makers are organising campaign activities at district, block and village level. Every Change Maker is supposed to mobilise 10 new Change Makers, each of whom will in turn mobilise 10 even new Change Makers, and so on till the entire state is covered.
